Many people would say that text and spoken language are similar or different.. In this essay I will be talking about the similarities and differences between spoken language and text.

If you used slang to talk to your friend and you was texting to him you would write in the same way you speak. When people are texting a friend they miss out words. This is called omission , it is more efficient to the conversation and the reader still understands it. When people talk to an older person they talk to them in standard English, this is to show respect and also if they was talk to an adult or teacher in slang they most properly wouldn’t understand them.

NGL (NOT GONNA LIE) This is called a abbreviation if people was to say this to an adult they wouldn’t understand what they just said to them. When people find something funny in texting they use “lol” which is an abbreviation. If someone was talking they wouldn’t say “lol” which means” laugh out loud” they would laugh, to show that they found something funny. Another example of a difference between texting and speaking is “snm” which is an abbreviation. If someone was talking they wouldn’t say “snm” they would say “say no more”. Emojis are also helpful to show the person that they are talking to their emotions or feelings. Another way of showing someone how they feel when talking is by hand gestures and facial expressions. The use of these abbreviations is to keep the conversation efficient.

obvs (obviously) This language device is called pluralisation and a abbreviation. If I was to this most parents would most probably understand this because of the way how it looks and sounds. Another example of a language device when talking is going home (im  going home) this language device is called omission. Omission is when you miss out words in a sentence which keeps a message or conversation efficient.
