Chapter 36
Pip and Herbert have been spending a huge amount of money. It’s Pips 21st birthday. Mr Jagger’s tells Pip that he is going to receive a big birthday present. Pip is going to start receiving 500 pounds a year which is a lot of money. Mr Jagger’s shows up for dinner with Herbert and Pip. Pip asks Wemmick for advice he tells him that he is gonna invest his money into his friend. Pip asks Wemmick if he’s speaking as a business man or or friend and Wemmick says business man.
Chapter 37
Pip decides to visit Wemmicks castle. When he arrives the aged greets him and tells him that Wemmick isn’t in. Wemmick salutes Pip and Wemmick is with a lady. Her name is Miss Skiffins and she seems nice. Pip and Wemmick talk and Pip asks Wemmick the best way he can finance Herbert’s career without him knowing. Theres a shipping merchant named Clarriker and he’s looking to expand his company. They are all around the fire having tea and Pip watches Wemmick trying to put his arm around miss Skiffins waist. Later on Pip goes home after having a good time.
Chapter 38
Pip spends most of his time in Richmond with Estella. Estella is being introduced to miss Harvisham’s old and wealthy friends. Estella uses Pip so that she can get other boys jealous. Pip and Estella go to miss Harvisham’s house at night. Whilst they are there Estella tells miss Harvishm about all the boys that are in love with her. Pip relies that miss Harvisham controls Estella and Estella is her creation. As the three are enjoying there time Estella unhooks her arm from miss Harvisham’s. Miss Harvisham goes crazy and tells Estella that she is ungreatful and rude. They then begin to argue and Estella says she is her mother by adoption. Pip decides to go for a walk and when he gets back Estella is kneeling at miss Harvisham’s feet and knitting, it is as if they it never happened. Estella has a restless night. At a party the next day Pip watches Drummle talk to Estella the whole night. Pip approches Estella and asks why she lets Drummle talk to her. Estella says she is only trying to play a game with other people but doesn’t play that game with Pip.
Chapter 39
In this chapter it is Pip’s birthday and he is 23 years old. Pip is all alone, Herbert is in France. Pip hears footsteps out of no where and he thinks it is sister from the dead. As the stranger gets closer he notices tat it is Magwich the convict and he is very happy to see Pip. He tells Pip he is the benefactor.
Chapter 40
Pip is flipping out and his lanterns are blown out so he decides to go outside even though it is a windy night to ask the watchman if he can re-light his lanterns. Pip steps on someone and tells him to tell him who he is but he doesn’t respond. Pip gets the watchman and when they gt back he is no longer there. In the morning Pip asks the convict his name and he tells him his name is Magwich but goes by the name of Provis in town. Magwich tells him he wants to stay with Pip and spend his money with him. Pip goes to Jaggers to ask if Magwich is his benefactor and he tells him he is. On the way back home Pip buys Magwich some new clothes so he dosen’t look like hes just come out of prison. Herbert is coming back so Pip tries to prepare Herbert for the news. When he tells Herbert he gets confused.
